A full-size luxury SUV, the 2013 Cadillac Escalade continues the successful Escalade lineage that was originally introduced in 1999. Under the hood drivers will find a 6.2-liter V8 engine that produces 403 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque, for an impressive 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds. A 6-speed automatic transmission is mated to AWD to enable the Escalade to achieve an EPA estimated 13 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. Features include 22-inch wheels, HID headlights, power liftgate, power sunroof, remote start, DVD entertainment system, and premium audio. Safety is comprised of anti-lock braking (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), advanced airbags, vehicle stability assist (VSA), and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

Classified as a full-size SUV, the 2013 Cadillac Escalade is offered in Base, Luxury, Premium and Platinum Edition trim levels. Seven-passenger seating is standard, with an option to add a second-row bench for up to eight passengers (except on the Platinum trims). The Escalade Hybrid, the extended-length ESV and the pickup-style EXT are reviewed separately.

The base Escalade comes standard with 18-inch wheels, an adaptive and auto-leveling suspension, a locking rear differential, a tow package, rear parking sensors, a power liftgate, automatic xenon headlights, foglamps and heated mirrors with power-folding and driver-side dimming.

The Escalade Luxury adds 22-inch wheels, a magnetically controlled adaptive suspension, automatic high beams, a blind-spot warning system, a sunroof, power flip-and-fold second-row seats and a heated steering wheel. Options include power-retractable side steps and a rear-seat entertainment system with a single display.

The Escalade Premium adds the above options plus body-colored styling components in place of chrome, dual exhaust outlets and painted wheels. The Escalade Platinum Edition gets a unique grille and wheels, LED headlamps, upgraded leather upholstery, extended leather interior trim, upgraded interior trim, heated and cooled cupholders and a different rear-seat entertainment system with twin headrest-mounted screens.

Luxury – Individuality – Excitement

The brand new stylish, fourth-generation Range Rover SUV from Land Rover fully capable of off-road hits showrooms this December following a global premiere at the 2012 Paris Auto Show.

On the outside, the new model, code as L405, remains unmistakably a Range Rover. Beneath the beautiful sheet metal, however, the new 2013 Range Rover is nothing like its predecessors. A lighter, stronger and more refined aluminum unibody structure has been implemented, helping the vehicle to shed as much as 926 pounds from the previous model’s curb weight in some trims. The U.S.-spec V-8 Range Rover comes in at 700 pounds under the model currently on sale, and weighs in at 4,850 pounds.

On top of this, all-new aluminum front and rear chassis architecture has been developed and paired with a completely re-engineered four-wheel air suspension setup. According to Land Rover, the new setup delivers flatter, more confident cornering abilities, with a natural and intuitive steering feel. Despite weighing less, the new Range Rover is more spacious and much more luxurious than the outgoing model. The cabin of the new model is significantly more refined than in previous generations designed with the sliding panoramic roof, Meridian sound system available with up to 29 speakers, sumptuous wood and brushed aluminum trim, four-zone climate control and pair of LCD display screens. Not only is there more space overall, but passengers are treated with a quieter ride and new premium features. All the glass is acoustically laminated and the exterior has been designed to minimize wind noise.

For the U.S. market, two V-8 engines will once again be offered: a naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V-8 rated at 375 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque, and a supercharged version of this engine with 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque on tap. Both engines will be paired with a ZF eight-speed automatic. The 0-60 times come in at an impressive 6.5 seconds and 5.1 seconds, respectively, while top speeds register at 130 mph and 140 mph. The new Range Rover also adopts electric power steering. In addition to helping save fuel by reducing load on the engine, as opposed to conventional hydraulic systems, the electric system also enables customers to benefit from park assist feature that helps to identify a suitable parallel parking space, and then automatically steers the vehicle into place, with the driver only controlling the brake.

A Luxury Midsize Powerful SUV

The Porsche Cayenne is one of the most appealing midsize luxury crossovers due to its sophisticated engineering, impeccable construction, immense features list and surprisingly useful cabin. The 2013 Porsche Cayenne is a five-passenger midsize SUV available in six different models that mostly differ by engine. The base Cayenne features a 3.6 liter-V6 that produces 300 horsepower.

The Cayenne Diesel features a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 diesel that produces 240 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. The eight-speed automatic is standard. Porsche says the diesel Cayenne will hit 60 mph in 7.4 seconds, which is quick for a diesel engine. EPA-estimated fuel economy is an excellent 19/29/23.

The Cayenne S represents a substantial upgrade, with its 4.8-liter V8 good for 400 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. As with every V8 Cayenne, the eight-speed automatic with auto stop/start is standard. Porsche estimates the S will hit 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. EPA-estimated fuel economy is nearly equal to the V6 at 16/22/18.

The Cayenne S Hybrid features a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 attached to a 34kW electric motor. Combined, this hybrid powertrain produces 380 hp and 427 lb-ft of torque. EPA-estimated fuel economy is worse than that of the diesel at 20/24/21, but acceleration is stronger. In Edmunds performance testing, it hit 60 mph in 6.1 seconds.

The Cayenne GTS gets an upgraded version of the S engine good for 420 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. Its 0-60 time is estimated to be the same as the Cayenne S. EPA-estimated fuel economy stands at 15/21/17.

The Cayenne Turbo gets a turbocharged 4.8-liter V8 good for 500 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. In Edmunds performance testing, the Turbo hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, which makes it one of the quickest SUVs on the planet. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 15/22/17. The Turbo Powerkit bumps output up to 540 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.

Regardless of trim, each Cayenne equipped with the eight-speed automatic is rated to tow as much as 7,716 pounds. Like other Porsches, the Cayenne features fine interior materials put together with excellent craftsmanship. Handsome wood, alloy trim and leather upholstery further add to the luxurious ambience.
